Just like any other place, Feistritz an der Gail, has kept up with the times. But the old village has survived through its magnificent architecture. The houses cling together around the two linden trees as if in search of warmth.

The Alte Post is also situated beside one of the linden, right at the heart of village life. The revitalisation of the Alte Post undoubtedly represents an important stimulus for the village.

Feistritz as manny other villages has gone through manny erroneous trends. Fortunately people now begin to rethink agricultural production. More and more farmers are turning to methods of sustainable agriculture and are producing high quality products.

Why not come and try out the excellent sports facilities – an enjoyable way to stay on top form! Set off on cycle rides, play tennis, go mountain biking, walk along quiet country paths, or try out a dinghy trip on the river Gail. Afterwards you can take it easy in our wellness suite and simply lie back and relax.

As early as 1901 the first Slovenian Alpine Club in Carinthia was founded in Achomitz. One of the main achievements of the club lay is its wish to propagate the idea that the mountains are not just a place for local agriculture, but also a natural resource of immeasurable value. Between the wars, a local priest, Father Millonig, had the idea of reviving some traditional activities of former times. Before long, the club could count some excellent skiers among its members. After the 2nd world war, the Achomitz ski club was also founded – a training ground for world-class skiers such as Schnabl, Wallner and Millonig.

Thanks to its main hall and also its lovely and secluded courtyard, the Alte Post is the ideal venue for cultural events. With concerts, readings, exhibitions, and so on, the Alte Post offers something for every taste.

Special facilities offered by the inn include our seminar rooms, which are excellent for training courses, presentations, corporate get-togethers and seminars.

In the countryside, an inn is a vital communications centre and in some ways helps to provide for the needs of both visitors and locals.

And without communication, of course, community life can suffer. But the fulfilment of more practical needs, especially food and drink, is also an important role played by both the inn and the little village shop, run by the Alte Post.

Feistritz an der Gail is well-known as a centre for horse breeding. It's not surprising, then, that the Alte Post's stables were once the site of the regional stud farm and that just such a facility has recently been reintroduced on site.

You can view the beautiful and sturdy horses in the newly erected stables. You might even decide to go for a ride on one of the area's famous Noriker horses.

The number of traditional inns operating in Feistritz has declined over the last few years, just as in many other villages, in fact. Some inns have had to close. There are many reasons, however, why we should fight against this trend, not least to retain and revitalise facilities for the village and provide a place where people can get together.

After a break of almost 25 years the Alte Post, then, was "reawakened" from its slumbers, and once again provides an excellent place for villagers, locals and others to enjoy a fine meal or drink.
